The city of Miami will elect a new mayor next month and, to many, the winner is a foregone conclusion. Francis Suarez has served as a Miami commissioner for the past eight years and is confident, but not cocky, about winning the mayor's job."You never take anything for granted," Suarez said. "Things change rapidly here." As a commissioner, Suarez has taken the lead in solving traffic problems, building affordable housing and supporting the city's previously troubled police department.
Suarez said he's proud that he has created what’s known as the Smart Plan, which is a rapid transit plan for the city. Suarez hopes to succeed Mayor Tomas Regalado, who cannot seek re-election because of term limits. He’s competing against Williams Armbrister, Christian Canache and Cynthia Jaquith for the position. But none have the money, track record and name recognition as Suarez.
